My other reason for going to SF last October was to cheer on one of my closest friends as she ran in her first half-marathon. Even though neither of us lives in SF, that’s where we met and spent several years together. We try to get back there together whenever we can.
I am retired from my career of long-distance running, and it was strange (and very relaxing) to be at a race without participating in it. I don’t think I’ve ever watched a race from the sidelines, and especially not with a camera! Since I had my pro camera with me, many runners thought I was an official race photographer and gave me wonderful smiles as they ran past. I hope they didn’t receive their official race photos and wonder, “Where are the photos from that photographer at Mile 11?”
