I’m Wenmei, and I’ve worked and played with photography my entire life. I started with my trusty Pentax K1000 film SLR as a student, and I deepened my own interest in photography as an architect and designer. I appreciate a powerful image of an architectural masterpiece, but I’ve found that my true passion lies in capturing the life of the people inhabiting it. I use my camera to tell the story of my own family and experiences, and I’d love to have the chance to help you tell your story too!
My photographic style favors natural lighting and a relaxed environment, though I do draw from my design background in framing and composition. To paraphrase architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, I believe that the beauty and wonder of life is found in the details. I strive to capture and highlight those details — tiny baby toes curled up in sleep, a gentle smile on a mama watching her toddler play, the tenderness in a new father’s touch, the clasped hands of a couple sharing an adventure, the unrestrained joy in a child’s eyes — while painting the scene in which those details and memories are created.
In addition to my client work, I lead Mamas with Cameras with fellow mama and photographer Mary Balmaceda. We are a community of shutter-happy mamas who gather to learn from one another and share our love of photography. In addition to monthly meet-ups, we teach digital photography workshops geared towards helping women learn and master their digital SLR cameras and make beautiful photos and photo keepsakes. We aim to make digital photography fun and accessible and we’d love to have you join us!
Mary and I also partner to photograph weddings and special events. We blend technical skill, creative passion, and professional dedication to capture your event with grace, style and expertise. Our goal is to create a smooth and stress-free photographic experience for you so that you can focus on your special day with the knowledge that each moment is being expertly captured.
