I’m Wenmei and I’m a portrait, event, and lifestyle photographer. I’m based out of Seattle, WA, and I travel for sessions and events throughout the United States and Canada.

At heart I’m a geek, but I’m a creative geek. I’ve been shooting photography since the 1980s (yes, I’m that old), starting as an architect and continuing through several iterations of my professional self. I am well-versed in classic design and visual arts principles as well as the latest technological advances, and I’m happy to discuss anything from the Golden Ratio to ISO invariance if you’re so inclined.

My style favors dynamic vibrancy in color, light and tone, and I’m a stickler for sharp focus and a clean composition. I use all of the tools at my disposal — gear, creativity, technical skill, humor and a complete willingness to make a fool of myself in order to get the shot — to capture the moments and details that tell your story.

The art and practice of photography involve so much more than just making photographs. I love to learn, teach and share. Luckily there are plenty of ways to do all of those things!

In addition to my client work, I co-founded Mamas with Cameras with fellow mama and photographer Mary Balmaceda. We lead a community of shutter-happy ladies who gather to learn from one another and share our love of photography. Along with monthly meet-ups, we teach digital photography workshops geared towards helping women learn and master their digital cameras and make beautiful photos and photo keepsakes. We aim to make digital photography fun and accessible and we are always looking for more women to join us!

Mary and I also partner to photograph weddings and events. We blend technical skill, creative passion, and professional dedication to capture your event with grace, style and expertise. From our behind-the-scenes bridal portraits to our fun- (and prop-) filled photo walls, our goal is to create a smooth and stress-free photographic experience so that you can focus on your special day with the knowledge that each moment is being expertly captured.

I am proud to be a board member and photographer for Soulumination. Soulumination celebrates the lives of children and parents facing life-threatening conditions by providing professional photographs of these special individuals and their families, free of charge. The life-affirming photographs of Soulumination are an enduring, positive record of the child’s life, and provide a loving legacy for the children of parents lost to terminal illness.

I also photograph for the A Family For Every Child Heart Gallery. The mission of Heart Gallery of America ® Inc. is to facilitate and utilize the power of photography to capture the individuality and dignity of children living in foster care, in order to advocate for their permanency, raise public awareness about their needs, and obtain support to help meet those needs. An integral part of honoring this mission is to provide assistance and resources to Heart Gallery chapters nationwide to help them achieve parallel goals for the waiting children they represent.
